2007 RMWEA Operations Challenge
 

Are we sick of the snow yet! Spring is just around the corner so dust off those clubs and get ready for another great golf season. Kickoff the new season with one of the best tournaments of the year, the 8th Annual "Operations Challenge" Golf Tournament to be held on June 11, 2007 at the award winning Green Valley Ranch Golf Club, home of the Colorado Open Championships. Be sure to set aside Monday, August 6 for the Rocky Mountain AWWA/WEA "Water for People" golf tournament! This year's tournament will be held at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood, the same location as last year's tournament. It will be an 8 a.m. shotgun start and will include lunch. See website.
 
LOCAL CONFERENCES
 
The 4th Annual WEF/AWWA Student Conference will be held May 14 from 9 am to 7:30 pm at the Engineering Center at the University of Colorado-Boulder in Boulder, CO. We are seeking sponsors to recruit during our mid-day recruitment and poster presentation session. We are also looking for more judges if you or your company is interested. USEPA Clean Water Act Recognition Awards - USEPA Clean Water Act Recognition Awards encourage public support for effective operations and maintenance activities at wastewater treatment facilities. Recognition is made for outstanding innovation of processes and practices at wastewater treatment facilities and recognizes communities that continue to meet water quality permit requirements. RMSAWWA Nominating Committee is considering candidates for Assistant Secretary-Treasurer. This is a two year assignment beginning in September 2007 with an additional two years as Secretary-Treasurer. The position requires taking minutes for all Board meetings and other assigned duties. RMWEA AWARDS NOMINATIONS ARE DUE MAY 31, 2007.  Please take the time to read the following list of awards that are available through the RMWEA to recognize individuals for their contributions to the profession. If you know an individual who should receive special recognition, submit the information required to the individuals listed on the RMWEA Awards Nomination Form for each state.  On-line Nomination Form http://www.rmwea.org.
 
THE 2007 RMSAWWA AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIPS DEADLINE IS JULY 1, 2007.  Know Someone Who Deserves Recognition?   Award and scholarship deadlines are coming soon.  Awards are available for operators, laboratory, maintenance, and research.  Scholarships are available for college students and for a small system manager to attend the AWWA Water Utility Management Institute.  Find out more on the website www.rmsawwa.net. 
  
Call for Nominations For PWO Association Representative - This is an official request for nominations for the PWO Association Representative. Duties for this position are  Serve on the Executive Committee as a voting member and shall represent PWO members in CO, NM, and WY, •The term shall be for three years, which shall start immediately following the close of the annual Leadville PWO training conference and ineligible to serve full consecutive terms, •Responsible for organizing the wastewater curriculum for the annual Operators school in Leadville.  Please submit names by May 21, 2007 to Brenna Durkin at bdurkin@englewoodgov.org or call 303-762-2615.
The Nebraska Water Environment Association has acquired the nationally recognized wastewater expert, Joe Middlebrooks, to present a session on the "Design & Evaluation of Wastewater Facilities" manual he is preparing for the USEPA on July 19 and 20th. See website.

ON-LINE ENTRY-LEVEL CERTIFICATION EXAM SITES - The Operator Certification Program Office (OCPO) has arranged online testing sites for Spring 2007. If you meet the foregoing criteria (pre-approved testing level and smaller community), you may be able to take your exam at Meeker High School on May 12 and/or June 9, 2007. Space is limited, contact Joyce Paxton at OCPO (303) 394-8994 for details.
